PMSCAN for Personal Exposure Monitoring

PMSCAN

Personal exposure instrument with NextPM inside

Real-time personal PM exposure you can carry anywhere

Air isn’t uniform. Your exposure can spike on a specific street, during a commute, or even while cooking. PMSCAN helps you see those moments in real time so you can act: change a route, adjust ventilation, or document hotspots for interventions. It’s a compact, battery-powered monitor designed to make particle exposure visible, practical, and comparable across people and places.

Why personal exposure monitoring matters

Most air-quality programs focus on fixed stations. They’re essential—but they miss what individuals actually breathe as they move. Personal monitoring complements networks by:

Capturing micro-environments (transport, indoor activities, streets, schools).

Revealing short-lived peaks that drive dose.

Enabling behavior and policy changes grounded in measured exposure.

This is relevant for public health studies, occupational hygiene, citizen science, education programs, and organizations that want to reduce employee exposure on site and in transit.

What PMSCAN measures

NextPM Inside

PMSCAN uses NextPM unique features to provide accurate and reliable PM measurements.

Dual-Angle Detection: NextPM utilizes a patented dual-angle detection system that measures light scattering at both 45° and 90°. This approach enhances particle size discrimination, leading to more accurate PM measurements across PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 categories.

Humidity Regulation: To address the impact of humidity on sensor accuracy, NextPM incorporates internal heating resistors that maintain humidity levels below critical thresholds. This feature prevents hygroscopic growth of particles, ensuring reliable measurements even in high-humidity environments.

Free App / Memory / Autonomy

PMSCAN is provided with free IOS / Android application as well a a browser based webapp that can be run on any chromium based browser (such as Chrome).

PMSCAN also has an internal battery and 15 hours of battery for autonomous recording, mobile recording. It requires no licence or dashboard fees you can retrieve all data directly in csv format.

FAQ

Q: What particulate sizes does the NextPM sensor measure?

NextPM measures particulate matter in three standard fractions—PM1, PM2.5, and PM10—as well as particle counts across five granulometric channels (0.3-0.5 µm, 0.5-1 µm, 1-2.5 µm, 2.5-5 µm, and 5-10 µm).

Q: How accurate is the NextPM sensor compared to traditional instruments?

NextPM sensors have shown excellent accuracy, with correlation coefficients exceeding 0.95 when compared to certified reference instruments in independent field studies.

Q: Does NextPM require frequent maintenance?

No. The NextPM sensor includes patented humidity management and anti-clogging technology, significantly reducing maintenance needs. Its design allows up to 10 years of continuous use with minimal maintenance.
